The Original Misfits, one of the most influential, genre-defining bands to emerge from North America, have announced a limited run of shows for 2023 kicking off on June 24th in Tampa at MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Amphitheatre with Megadeth, hitting the band's home turf of NJ at the Prudential Center in Newark on July 8th with fellow New Jersey natives The Gaslight Anthem, followed by a performance at Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre on July 15th in Phoenix with AFI. All three dates will also have support from FEAR.

R.I.P. GEORGE A. ROMERO: Feb. 4, 1940 - July 16, 2017

One of the highest compliments the Misfits ever received was when George Romero said we were the only band that he would direct a music video for. He agreed to do a video for our song "Scream" in 1999, and in return, we agreed to appear in, and contribute two songs for his film "Bruiser".

Growing up, the release of "Night of the Living Dead" was a game changer taking horror to a whole new level. In many ways his conviction and insight to his art was unparalleled. Working with George was a very enlightening experience showing that talent is a natural gift.

I remember on set, I wanted to capture a picture of the Misfits with George Romero, and when George stood up, he was big... bigger than the guys in the band, so he sat in his director's chair. The only thing bigger than his stature as a man, is his legend. Today his original vision of horror has become a cornerstone of pop culture, and his army of the undead are a cultural revolution!!!

A famous quote once foretold, "Nothing is stronger than an idea whose time has come". That statement sums up this situation at its core. The Misfits were so far ahead of their time when we began back in 1977, that it took the world 40 years to catch up. Survival is the challenge...some creations wither and die, destined for extinction, while others endure the test of time. There are rare exceptions when something takes root and grows slowly, beneath the surface, until it eventually takes over. That time has come, and that time is NOW...

IN CELEBRATION OF THE 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE MISFITS...

THE ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME UNVEILS JERRY ONLY'S BASS & VEST!

In celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the Misfits (note: the legendary punk band's first gig took place on April 18, 1977 at CBGB in NYC), the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame unveils the latest edition to its permanent collection of historic punk artifacts...

Misfits founding member Jerry Only's custom Devastator Bass and custom spiked leather vest—both designed by Only personally, and used at both of the Original Misfits Reunion Shows in 2016—now on display at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum in Cleveland!

Jerry's artifacts are specifically displayed in the Hall of Fame's Blank Generation: New York/London/Los Angeles case in their Cities and Sounds exhibit. This exhibit focuses on the music scenes in various cities (Detroit/Motown, Memphis/Sun Records, etc.). The Blank Generation covers the birth and enduring legacy of punk and new wave.

Meredith Rutledge-Borger, Curator at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame says:

"The Misfits have long been a favorite here at the Rock Hall among both visitors and staff. This particular Misfits Devastator bass is very rare and unique for a variety of reasons. Not only was it used at both of the historic Original Misfits Reunion shows that took place at Riot Fest on September 4th 2016 in Denver, and September 18, 2016 in Chicago, but this particular Devastator also marks the first model ever made from authentic Louisville Slugger wood—as used in their world famous line of iconic baseball bats.

"I'm also very proud that this is the first Devastator bass made from Louisville Slugger wood, which is an American institution." says Jerry Only. "For every home run in major league baseball hit with a Louisville Slugger bat, I don't think any one ever hit a home run bigger than I did in Denver and Chicago with this bass. It may be the concert of the millennium. The reaction from our devoted fans, the fiends, was unparalleled and their blood lust is for more..."

To the upper right of Jerry's Devastator Bass is Dee Dee Ramone's 1978 Fender Precision Bass, and to the lower right of Jerry's Devastator is Johnny Ramone's main guitar used from 1977-1996. Johnny himself wrote those dates on the back of the guitar upon retiring in 1996. The black leather jacket above Johnny's guitar is Joey Ramone's, circa 1988. To the left of Jerry's artifacts you can see a red Tama drumhead used by Chris Frantz of the Talking Heads, c. 1988, as well as the very first Talking Heads T-shirt, worn by Tina Weymouth in 1975. The Hall of Fame's collection also includes original paintings by Dee Dee Ramone on loan.

From the time of their first gig in 1977, the MISFITS and their iconic imagery went on to become one of the most crucially influential, genre-defying bands to ever emerge from North America, the MISFITS significance extends well beyond the narrowed path of punk rock & hardcore. Although not cognizant of how significant they would become, what the MISFITS achieved in their initial six-year window deconstructed and redefined rock music.

All the while, the MISFITS with Danzig's unmistakeable voice, Only's ferocious bass sound and the bands anthemic songs, melody-induced choruses and authentically bruising musicianship, cemented their importance with all ensuing generations, whether in arena-filled metal shows or in a sweaty 400-cap club in Tucson. And for the 'First Time in over Three Decades', legions of diehard fans from around the world will have the opportunity to hear the Original Band that created thousands of bands in their wake.

A NEW CHAPTER BEGINS: STATIC AGE REVISITED TOUR 2015

The Misfits recently held four shows on the West Coast in preview of a new lineup and the band's fall 2015 tour plans. As some fiends may have heard, guitarist Dez Cadena (formerly of Black Flag), is no longer in the band. Jerry Only's son (Jerry jr.) has stepped into the position on guitar joining his father's side, and Eric "Chupacabra" Arce remains on drums. Dez began with the 'fits as a special guest on the 25th Anniversary tour in 2001, and shortly after became the permanent guitarist through to present. We all wish Dez the best with his future endeavors, and the Misfits begin a new chapter.

The first official studio material from the new lineup will surface this fall in the form of the single "Zombie Girl" b/w "Vampire Girl" - two fiendish new songs written by Misfits founding member Jerry Only.

This fall SEE the Misfits revisit the Static Age - LIVE! NEW MISFITS LTD ED. "DOUBLE FEATURE" SERIES @ FRIGHT RAGS

For over three decades the horror genre has provided inspiration for countless Misfits songs. Now, in collaboration with Fright Rags, classic songs of the Misfits provide inspiration for a "double feature" series of faux-movie posters and shirts...

Fiendish visual artists Gary Pullin and "DEA.D. ALIVE!" cover artist Jason Edmiston were tasked with creating faux movie poster designs inspired by classic Misfits songs. Pullin channels "Hybrid Moments," while Edmiston asks "Mommy, Can I Go Out and Kill Tonight?" Each design brings to mind old-school grindhouse artwork while featuring the iconic Misfits "Fiend".

Both designs are available on apparel in a highly limited edition of unisex T-shirts, girls shirts and zip-up hoodies (limited to 400 pcs each), as well as 18" x 24" screen-printed posters—limited to 150 pcs worldwide. You can pre-order these items on Fright-Rags.com starting 10am Thursday April 10th. Pre-orders will last until Thursday, April 17 at 10am or until they sell out - whichever comes first. All orders are expected to ship in late May.

Fiends attending NY COMIC CON Thursday through Sunday October 10th - 13th at the Javitz Center in NYC be sure to stop by and visit the Misfits Records booth (#522) located in “The Block”!

The Misfits' JERRY ONLY and Osaka Popstar’s JOHN CAFIERO will be appearing as special guests of NYCC throughout the 4-day event to meet and greet fans and sign autographs. The Misfits’ DEZ CADENA (guitar) and ERIC “CHUPACABRA” ARCE (drums) are scheduled to join the fold on Saturday.

Misfits Records also unveils its brand new logo designed by artist Tom Whalen and launches new T-shirts, tote bags, turntable mats & more featuring the new label logo. Look for these fiendish new items available for the first time anywhere at NYCC. The 7th Annual Johnny Ramone Tribute took place on Sat. Oct 1st 2011 in Los Angeles, CA. As anticipated, the event was the biggest and best one to date. The turn out of Ramones fans, Misfits Fiends, Johnny Commandos, celebrities and more was as amazing as it was diverse. The Misfits and JuiceheaD appeared as special guests, (debuting their Fall 2011 full-length album releases: "The Devil's Rain" and "How to Sail a Sinking Ship" respectively), joined by John Cafiero (Osaka Popstar), Johnny's wife Linda Ramone, Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols, Lisa Marie Presley, Actress Rosanna Arquette and many more.

MISFITS WALK AMONG US ON RECORD STORE DAY

Rhino will offer three colored-vinyl versions of the Misfits' LP WALK AMONG US to mark the 30-year anniversary of the band's 1982 full-length classic. It is a faithful reproduction of the original with music cut from the original analog masters and packaging that duplicates details down to the printed inner sleeve. Limited to 3,000 total copies in the U.S., WALK AMONG US will be available for a suggested list price of $17.98. The album will be pressed on red (1,250 pieces), blue (1,250 pieces) and clear (500) vinyl. Color variations will be distributed randomly. There will also be a purple vinyl pressing released internationally that will be limited to 1,500 copies.

"JuiceheaD crank out some bustin O.S. punk rock; taking me back to my skater youth. They play hard and fast with some hints of ska, and entice a rather nice pit mid-set. They do look happy powering through songs ‘Rotting From The Inside’ ‘The American Dream’ ‘ Deadly Nightshade’ ‘Open Sore’ ‘Internal Bleeding’ ‘Disenchanted Youth’ and several more from their debut CD ‘How To Sail A Sinking Ship’ before dragging out a buddy to sing along to ‘Covered In Blood’ and finally closing their set with ‘Death Of Democracy’ (how’s that for punk rock) leaving behind a pleased crowd and me wanting to check out more about them.

Now the Misfits (should) need no introduction… the crowd swells largely here as the house lights dim, and all the stage attire is finely stripped of the black shrouds that have kept all the props ‘a secrecy’. Dramatically opening with title track from the new Cd ‘Devil’s Rain’ the Misfits are clearly here to prove to, and blow away any doubters…Jerry Only powers impressively through a well presented live stage set (props and lights included) concluding the first part of the set, quite rightly, being dedicated to for-said new Cd. Finally stopping for a few short words and then it’s old school time baby… ‘Static Age’ ‘Where Eagles Dare’ ‘ Death Comes Ripping’ ‘She’ and plenty more classics…and finishing the set with favorite ‘We Are 138’ before leaving the stage for a few minutes to return... An extensive encore of old classics and some new thrown in follows on. Set closer ‘Die Die My Darling’ is played at rocket speed finishing what proved to be a great Misfits gig. Jerry Only’s voice carried all the songs superbly keeping a classic Misfit vibe, and even the two songs that Dez sang fit in to secure the legacy that the Misfits are back and mean business (all be it a different line up, but a damn good one at that). "This was a night with Jerry Only behind the reigns, a night that will make your ears bleed but ultimately leave you screaming for more.

…the legendary JuiceheaD from Chicago managed to get a mosh pit going from the start to the very end of their set. The three-piece punk band delivered a lively and upbeat performance of dirty, jaw splitting tunes of every way, shape and form. With the comical facial expressions of vocalist Rob Vannice these guys were more than fun to watch.  From front to the back of the room they got the crowd well and truly hyped with their sing-along chorus’s and aggressive riffs. By the end of their set the audience were just about ready to wee their pants in excitement for The Misfits.

After a long and climatic intro with inches of smoke from the fog machine The Misfits were up and what an entrance they made! With skulls attached to every mike stand and a drum kit that looks like it had just risen from the grave. It was evident that the fans of Reading were in for a long night of horror fueled fun. With each song blasting into the next one Jerry Only left no time for applause and no time to stop the pits. It’s true what they say, there’s no rest for the wicked. With the generic dirty, grimy fast paced beats that make The Misfits so inspiring it is no wonder they are the iconic band they are. Jerry’s graphite bass guitar sounded as heavy as it probably was to hold and his trademark spiky leather jacket just added this surreal zombie, metal hedgehog look to the whole stage set. The strobe lighting got the crowd going crazy and the fists the high in the air as fans screamed along to the harsh sound of Jerry’s voice. By the end of the night it took an hour to get my hearing back but it was so worth it. With more line-up changes over the years than you can shake a fork at,  them members that now make up The Misfits are incredible. Jerry has still got it, and his voice is still as unique and mind blowing as it always was. Make sure you check them out on the rest of their UK tour while you still can!"

But two years later, he was out of the NFL, facing drug addiction and in search of a life beyond football. In Loving Memory of Jim Powers

Jim Powers died the morning of Monday March 23rd at home surrounded by family. A wonderful father of six, grandfather of 14, and loving husband, Jim Powers served in the US Army for 25 years, taught at the Army War College (to as well as alongside esteemed colleagues including Colin Powell and Norman Schwarzkopf) and retired a Colonel. Although at times he held positions in high places such as the Pentagon, Colonel Jim Powers passed on many opportunities that promised far more money and commanded respect elsewhere, to devote time, energy and resources into the love and passion he had for his own hometown.

Colonel Powers dedicated his life to public service and even refused a paid position in the mayor's office offering to do the job for free instead. He was a man of integrity, honor, and pride. President and Vice-President for a multitude of noteworthy community organizations too numerous to list in their entirety, he also served as the Police and Fire Commissioner, Special Assistant to the Mayor, and founder of the NoGraf Network.

Misfits founder Jerry Only, who was especially close with his late father-in-law, reflects:

"He was like a father to me. He was a strong supporter of the band and respected the brotherhood he saw amongst the fiends. He thought it was great that the guys in the pit would knock each other down during a song, and then help each other up again. The unity of the punks really impressed him."

Jim Powers was born April 14, 1938 in Milwaukee, WI and died March 23, 2009 in Rockford, IL.

Today everyone is aware of the ecnomic crunch and the loss of American jobs. However in Rockford, Illinois the problem has been around for decades. My father-in-law Jim Powers stood strong to support his community for many years through various volunteer work and city appointed positions. Now he has been honored for his service by having a major street dedicated in his name, a front page story in the paper, and being named "person of the week" by the local ABC news.

I had the pleasure of working with the Colonel and Mayor Larry Morrissey in support of the N Factor, a center which helps educate Rockford's youth by rewarding scholastic effort with recreational credit. In December of 2007, the Misfits played a benefit show to support this center that Jim helped organize. Also in attendence was fellow community activist Rick Nielson of Cheap Trick. It was my pleasure to help out among such outstanding people.

I'd like to thank him for giving me Joanna's hand in marriage, supporting me with sound advice, and being a wonderful grandfather for our daughter. Congratulations on honors bestowed upon you. You are a true American hero!

Lux Interior, frontman and founding member of legendary punk band the Cramps passed away on February 4th, 2009.

Lux formed the Cramps in New York in 1976 with his wife and guitarist, Poison Ivy. The Cramps had their own unique blend of music that was undeniably punk injected with elements of surf and rockabilly of the 1950s & 60’s. Horror and B-movie photo by Rocky Schenkthemes create a kinship between the Misfits and the Cramps, yet both bands have a distinctively different sound and visual image.

Jerry Only reflects:"I always wanted to play with The Cramps, especially on a Fiend Fest tour. He will be missed and remembered."

The morning of April 9, 2008, Oscar "Ozzie" Cadena passed away peacefully at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Torrance with his family at his side.

Music producer, promoter, A&R man and jazz enthusiast, over the years Ozzie Cadena collaborated with some of the best in the business.

A longtime jazz lover, Cadena worked at Savoy Records in Newark, New Jersey during the 1950s as a producer and A&R man. He later produced records at Blue Note and Prestige.

Over the course of his career, Ozzie Cadena worked with greats like Cannonball Adderley, Dexter Gordon, John Coltrane, Donald Byrd, Ornette Coleman, and Milt Jackson.

His musical interests were not strictly limited to jazz. He also made contributions to gospel music, the blues, and R&B. "Gospel scholar Anthony Heilbut cites Cadena as one of the greatest gospel producers of all time." (Silsby)

Born in Oklahoma City, Cadena served overseas during WWII. He started his family and began his music career in Newark, New Jersey, the city in which he was raised. In 1974, the family relocated to the South Bay in California.

In his later years, Ozzie Cadena promoted jazz events throughout the city, but he is particularly known for keeping the jazz scene at the landmark jazz venue the Lighthouse Café in Hermosa Beach.

Cadena founded the Hermosa Beach Jazz Alumni and spearheaded the Pier Plaza Jazz Memorial Committee. Hermosa Beach's current jazz profile is almost entirely due to Cadena, an East Coaster who always acknowledged what West Coast jazz had to offer

Ozzie was father to LA writer Lori Nyx and musician Dez Cadena. Ozzie is also survived by his wife Gloria, son Pru, and grandchildren Kyle and Bret. In accordance with his wishes, there will not be formal services. A tribute concert will be organized at a future date. The family requests that you honor Ozzie's memory by attending a jazz performance and showing your support for the musicians to whom he dedicated his life.

IN MEMORY OF BEN CHAPMAN

A few words from Jerry Only remembering Ben Chapman:

"We met Ben back in the 90's at the Chiller Theater convention and he became a good friend of ours. The first time we ever went to Hawaii (after our first tour of Japan), Ben (who lived there) caught up with us at the airport on our way out. He was friends with all of the local politicians, the mayor etc. and he jokingly threatened to have us thrown off the Island if we didn't call him to get together the next time we visited Hawaii. Having just gone to Hawaii in January on the first leg of the 30th Anniversary tour, I tried to get in touch with Ben and couldn't reach him. His illness explains why. Keeping my word, the first thing I did when I got to Hawaii was try to contact Ben. Besides, who wants to get thrown off of an Island by the Creature from the black Lagoon! Ben's memory lives on in the hearts of classic horror fans everywhere and his spirit will always be in the water. The creature will always walk among us..."
